NEW! We’ve just started carrying Fentiman’s Botanically Brewed Rose Lemonade and Ginger Beer, with an in-store special of $4.29 for January.
Fentimans’ Rose Lemonade has a sweet, citrus aroma, infused with the delicate and subtle scent of rose; smooth finish and complex mouthfeel; and vibrant, blush pink colour. It is made with pure Otto rose oil from the world-famous Rose Valley in Bulgaria. This rose oil is one of the most valuable essential oils on earth and used in some of the finest perfumes on the market. Fentimans blends a small amount of this oil with lemon juice to add an unrivalled depth of flavour.
Fentimans’ Ginger Beer uses the finest quality ginger root, sourced from countries including China and Peru, and fermented for a drink that is fiery and full of flavour with a complex taste.
You can find these in aisle 2, with all the other specialty non-alcoholic beverages we carry.
Founded in 1905, Fentimans is a botanical brewery based in Hexham, Northumberland, England. Founder Thomas Fentiman, an ironworker from Cleckheaton, England, was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan. A deal was struck and a ginger beer recipe was provided as collateral. The loan was never repaid, so Thomas became the owner of the unique recipe, which he began using to produce Fentimans Ginger Beer. Originally, Thomas sold his Botanically Brewed Ginger Beer door-to-door via horse and cart in ceramic jars known as Grey Hens, which were stamped with Fentimans mascot, his German Shepard dog.
As supermarkets entered the soft drink market and sales of the grey hens decreased, Fentimens fell on hard times and company closed by the mid 1960s. But in 1988, Thomas Fentiman’s great grandson re-established the business with a mission to produce drinks using the traditional recipe and 100% natural ingredients. Today, the business is still in the Fentimans family, owned by Thomas’ great grandson, Eldon Robson.
