Jordan’s Cereals come from a family legacy of farming and flour milling, beginning with William Herbert Jordan in 1855 in Biggleswade, England. Fire guts the mill in 1894, but the family rebuilds. In the 1900s, depression and two world wars bring on many challenges as they compete with industrial factories’ faster production, necessitating keeping the business afloat by producing animal feed, but it’s just a temporary solution.
In the 1960s, grandsons Bill and David are old enough to be trained as flour millers and join the business. For a while, Bill ditches the mill to tour as a rock and roll drummer, but discovers the counterculture crunchy cereal, granola. He brings the idea back to the UK, believing it can offer Brits the nutritional goodness that other cereal producers were removing.
The brothers reboot the business in 1972 with a second-hand bakery oven and a dream, creating their own version of granola, which quickly gains popularity at local fairs, then health shops and grocery stores. In 1989, they launch in Canada. Today, they make over 30 different cereals including this protein granola, enjoyed in over 30 countries, while working closely with farmers to protect and improve the farmlands on which the grains are grown.
